New Moon Radio is co-curated by jazmín calderón torres, Lara Birchler and Solomon Botwick-Ries.
jazmín calderón torres (they/them) is a queer, trans-nonbinary, autistic, multiracial Puerto Rican interdisciplinary artist apprenticing to the grave, liminal, and beyond human world. They currently live and were raised in unceded Timucua territory and Seminole.
Their ancestors are from Borikén (Puerto Rico), with an Indigenous Taino and White Spanish matrilineal lineage and a Black patrilineal lineage. Other lineages that move with them include QTBIPOC, jibaros, curanderas, campesinos, egrets, herons, the swamp, transcestors, candlemakers, sculptors, queer Black feminist scholars, caseworkers, the working class, the Caribbean, the “unproductive,” and neurodivergent.
They are currently a Producer, Creative Strategist at Lead to Life (leadtolife.org), attending to communal grieving of state-sanctioned violence through gathering, ceremony, speculative imagination.
They are a Weaving Earth Immersion alumni and have studied agroecology and regenerative design with Soul Fire Farm, Planting Justice, the Multinational Exchange for Agriculture (MESA). They have a Bachelors in New Media, Art Practice from the University of California, Berkeley, with a minor in Ecosystems Management and Forestry.
Lara (she/her) is especially passionate about sharing ways to strengthen relationships with members of the beyond-human world (birds!), thereby cultivating the birth-rite of belonging for all beings here on Earth.
Lara is a multimedia artist and 3rd-year graduate of the Weaving Earth Immersion program, where relational education and deep nature-connection practices such as bird language, animal tracking, permaculture, the work to dismantle systems of oppression, and ancestral skills are at the core of the curriculum.
For the fifteen years prior, she taught Art and Ceramics in California public high schools and also worked in therapeutic wilderness programs for teens. Lara loves to wander and lives in a bright yellow converted ol’ ambulance with a mini wood-fire stove. Lara is a white, cisgender woman who uses she/her pronouns.
Solace ( they/them ) is a community organizer , public astrologer , and youth mentor devoted to a world where all beings live in sovereignty , with access to pleasure , in reciprocity with their ecological home —
Solace lives as a white settler on Southern Pomo Land , and traces their ancestry from diasporic Ashkenazi Jewish peoples immigrating from Romania and Belarus . They are neurodivergent , working-class , chronically ill and transgender , with citizenship and education privilege . Solace is romanced with a vision of liberation that places people back in their bodies , back in relationship , and back in the landscape . To this end , Solace’s offerings take the form of non-binary/queer youth mentorship , council facilitation , Jewish chaplaincy , and somatic coaching . Solace is guided by a commitment to creating resilient peer and intergenerational relationships centered on nature-connection .
Solace is a graduate of the Weaving Earth Immersion Program . They are a co-visionary of and collaborator on the Queer Ecologies Constellation , a multi-regional network and seasonal cohort of LGBTQ2SIA+ and QTBIPOC farmers, ecologists , artists , and organizers gathering in study of queer-centered ecology and land-based practices . Solace is a member of the inaugural F.I.R.E ( Foundations in Resilience Education ) Fellowship .
Solace is an apprentice of bird-language , the tarot , and challah baking . Solace also goes by Solomon , Shlomo , and Salomé .
